Sunday Recap – May 13, 2012

Contemporary Services

We had a very full morning with our four services, Mother’s Day, Worship Choir and everything else, but it was a very good morning!  “All My Fountains” is so much easier to play now that we’ve added the click track!  “Bless the Lord” is a great upbeat song of praise from Jared Anderson and New Life Worship.  This was our first time using “One Thing Remains”, from Bethel Live, and based on the response from the congregation today, it’s one that will catch on. We also used a very cute Mother’s Day video from Steelhouse Media Group called “A Very Special Mommy”. It was a big hit with the moms!  Pastor Tim continues his series on Galatians from chapter 4, which deals with two mothers – Hagar and Sarah. You can watch the video of this service and see the Planning Center details.

Cafe Connection Service

Zack led the team in the Cafe today. The team did a super job (minus one with a sick child). It’s so good to continue to see new young families and others come to this service.  You can see the Planning Center details for this service.

Traditional Service

  • “The Church’s One Foundation”
  • “Praise The Lord, Ye Heavens Adore Him”
  • “He Leadeth Me”
  • “His Eye Is On the Sparrow”
  • “Mother’s Day Hymn”
  • “Take the Name of Jesus With You”

It was nice to sing some hymns we haven’t used in a while. We’ve used the “Mothers Day Hymn” for the past few years now, and it is one that always seems to be appropriate, although different verses are more appropriate as time goes by. You can watch the video of this service and see the Planning Center details.

Contemporary Services

Once again, God was gracious, and we had a wonderful morning of worship today at Bethel! The only hiccup was that my voice almost gave out in the middle of the second service, but I believe God answered the prayers of the team between services and sustained my voice through the morning.  I loved using “The Same Love” again; it was the second time we’ve used it, but the first time with the congregation.  We used it right after the message before communion.  You can watch the video of this service and see the Planning Center details.

Cafe Connection Service

Marv led the team in the Cafe this morning, and they did a super job! It was a full team, which was great to hear! Special shout-out to Chris and Makenzie who had a very early morning on sound and Easy Worship after spending last night at the prom! What dedication!  You can see the Planning Center details for this service.

Traditional Service

  • “Come Thou Almighty King”
  • “I Will Sing the Wondrous Story”
  • “At Calvary”
  • “Jesus Paid it All”
  • “Lamb of God” (Twila Paris)

The Traditional Service team did a great job as well today in their service. You can watch the video and see the Planning Center details for this service.

Sunday Recap – March 11, 2012

Contemporary Services

We started our message series focusing on the cross leading up to Easter today.  It also was Worship Choir day today so we had about 16 extra singers join us today!   Things went well, and all did a great job. The last song was added Saturday night by our senior pastor, and the team did a great job adding it in the last minute. You can watch the video of this service and see the Planning Center details.

Cafe Connection Service

Marv led the team in the Cafe this week, and picked out some great songs. The Cafe service is already super early at 8:00 a.m., so with the time change this weekend, these guys are super-dedicated and did such a great job!  You can see the Planning Center details for this service.

Traditional Service

  • “God Our Father, We Adore Thee”
  • “Be Exalted, O God”
  • “Joyful, Joyful We Adore Thee”
  • “I Believe In A Hill Called Mount Calvary”
  • “Hallelujah, What A Savior”
  • “The Old Rugged Cross”

This crew had a very early morning, too, with Daylight Saving Time this weekend.  Even so, they did a great job, and everything went well.  You can watch the video of this service, and see the Planning Center details.

Sunday Recap – March 4, 2012

Contemporary Services

The message today focused on prayer, but we also celebrated communion, which is where most of the songs today pointed people.  It was great to see so much interaction on “The Stand”, with so many people standing “with arms high and hearts abandoned”!  We have been using the click regularly for a while now, and it’s great! But, on the two communion songs yesterday, I decided not to start the click at the last minute. I just felt I wanted more freedom with the tempos and flow of the songs during communion.  You can watch the video of this service and see the Planning Center details.

Cafe Connection

I always enjoy getting the privilege to lead in the Cafe service, and we had a great team today!  You can see the Planning Center details for this service.

Traditional Service

  • All Hail the Power of Jesus’ Name
  • I Will Sing of My Redeemer
  • My Savior’s Love
  • Beneath the Cross of Jesus
  • At The Cross

Randy led the team in this service, and even though the team was very small, only 3 people, they did a great job!  You can watch the video of this service and see the Planning Center details.

Sunday Recap – February 12, 2012

Contemporary Services

This was quite an eventful morning! Ever have one of those mornings where almost nothing goes as planned, yet somehow it all works out? Well we experienced that this morning. This set list above didn’t happen in either service, although  it was the plan.   We had four very beautiful baby dedications in each service, and instead of the eight minutes we had planned, it turned out to be closer to 15. So, needless to say we adjusted our service accordingly, and cut a song in each service.  How do you handle things like baby dedications in your services? Everyone did a great job today, though! We had the worship choir sing along with the team and band, so the energy level was very high!  “Great I Am” is such a powerful song! If you haven’t tried this one yet, you need to at least listen to it. We had Jared Anderson at our church last October, and ever since then our church has embraced this song as a vehicle to just bask in the greatness and power of God. “You Are Good” was a newer song for us this morning – a great new upbeat song of praise from Bethel Live. You can watch the video of this service and see the Planning Center details.

Cafe Connection Service

Marv led the team in the Cafe this morning, and picked some great songs to along with our theme of “The Grace Factor”.  Pastor Tim had an excellent sermon on grace, and we even had our own baby dedication in the Cafe – a first!  You can see the Planning Center details for this service.

Traditional Service

  • This Is My Father’s World
  • Fairest Lord Jesus
  • Love Divine, All Loves Excelling
  • All That Thrills My Soul
  • Grace Greater Than Our Sin
  • Wonderful Grace Of Jesus

There are so many great hymns about God’s grace that it was hard to pick, but I had to include the last one – so fun to sing!  You can see the Planning Center details and the video for this service.

My view for this morning.

Sunday Recap – January 22, 2012

Contemporary Services

We started with two great songs about the name of Jesus with “Matchless” and “At Your Name”.  We used the click track from Praise Charts for “More Than Amazing”, which added a lot of great sounds and helped to fill it out and keep us from rushing.  There were a few cymbal crashes on the loop, though, that Christine didn’t play on the drums, which was a bit strange.

I had asked Zack to play an offertory on the guitar this week, and as the week went on, it evolved into him doing the song “Divine Romance” by Phil Wickham, which turned out great!! Zack played acoustic, with drums, bass guitar and accordion (on my keyboard).  He did a super job!

Closing out the service after the message, we used “I Will Follow” by Chris Tomlin. The 9:30 service went great, but at the 11:00, I forgot to change the keyboard from accordion back to piano, so needless to say, we had a very interesting start to “I Will Follow” in that service! I tried to casually joke about it, and we re-started the song, and all was well.  Some of the team, though, thought I should have kept it!

You can see the Planning Center details and the video for this service. I’ve included the video of Zack Burtness singing “Divine Romance” below.

Cafe Connection Service

I had the privilege of leading in the Cafe this morning, and I always enjoy when I get the chance.  We had a smaller team today with just me on the keyboard, 1 singer and acoustic guitar.  You can see the Planning Center details for this service.

Traditional Service

  • “The Solid Rock”
  • “My Faith Has Found A Resting Place”
  • “O Master Let Me Walk With Thee”
  • “O Jesus, I Have Promised”
  • “Little is Much When God Is In It”
  • “I’ll Go Where You Want Me To Go”

Rick led the team in the Traditional Service today, and from what I heard, things went well. Pastor Tim gave a message about serving today, and really did a great job of challenging people to get in the game and serve in a ministry. He highlighted each ministry, including the worship ministry, and by the end of the day, I had 5 new volunteers for the worship ministry!! You can watch the video of this service and see the Planning Center details.

Sunday Recap – August 21, 2011

Contemporary Services

I was actually on vacation yesterday, at my parent’s home in Minnesota. We had a great week spent with family and friends. We celebrated my 40th birthday, my dad’s 88th birthday, and my daughter’s 8th birthday.  That’s quite a span! From everything I’ve heard, the team back here at Bethel did a great job leading yesterday.  Thanks, Marv, for leading the team, and everyone else for a great job well done! You can see the Planning Center details for this service. I’d put the video up, but we’re having some technical difficulties with one of the components in our camera system which is putting some nasty purple bars across the screen, so it really isn’t very pretty to watch. 1st order of business now since I’m back from vacation – take care of that!

Cafe Connection

Marv led the team in our Cafe service as well, with the same songs. Pastor Jamie was gone as well, so Pastor Andrew facilitated this service.  You can see the Planning Center details for this service.

Traditional Service

  • “How Great Thou Art”
  • “My Faith Has Found A Resting Place”
  • “Blessed Assurance”
  • “Love Lifted Me”
  • “Blest Be The Tie That Binds”
  • “The Family of God”
Randy Bartz led the team in our Traditional Service while I was gone, and from the part of the video that I watched, the whole team did a super job! I’ve come to expect it now, but just before this service started, around 7:30 a.m., I received a text message saying something was wrong, please call.  Why is it that things seem to fail only when I’m on vacation? It’s usually something simple that I normally just take care of myself. I’ve told myself each time this happens that I need to do a better job of training people what to do about the “what if”s. What do I do if this happens, or that happens… I really don’t mind getting the calls/texts, but everyone really should know what to do if something like that happens.  Note taken… You can see the Planning Center details for this service.
Hope you all had a great Sunday! This post is part of the Sunday Setlists blog carnival at The Worship Community.
