Sunday Recap – May 6, 2012

Contemporary Services

Once again, God was gracious, and we had a wonderful morning of worship today at Bethel! The only hiccup was that my voice almost gave out in the middle of the second service, but I believe God answered the prayers of the team between services and sustained my voice through the morning.  I loved using “The Same Love” again; it was the second time we’ve used it, but the first time with the congregation.  We used it right after the message before communion.  You can watch the video of this service and see the Planning Center details.

Cafe Connection Service

Marv led the team in the Cafe this morning, and they did a super job! It was a full team, which was great to hear! Special shout-out to Chris and Makenzie who had a very early morning on sound and Easy Worship after spending last night at the prom! What dedication!  You can see the Planning Center details for this service.

Traditional Service

  • “Come Thou Almighty King”
  • “I Will Sing the Wondrous Story”
  • “At Calvary”
  • “Jesus Paid it All”
  • “Lamb of God” (Twila Paris)

The Traditional Service team did a great job as well today in their service. You can watch the video and see the Planning Center details for this service.

Easter Weekend Recap – 2012

Good Friday Service

This Good Friday Service was one of my favorites services we’ve done! I’m not sure what it was, but the whole service as an event seemed to flow well and everyone did such a great job on their parts.  It was a combination of music, 4 dramatic monologues of characters who were there at the cross (Peter, Simon who carried the cross, Mary, and the thief on the cross) and communion. We had three huge crosses at the front of the stage that were the focal point.  We used a video called “Scars”, too, which was very powerful!

A small thing that we did was to turn the lights down in the congregation and up on the platform. Seems like a simple thing, but I think it made a huge difference in the effectiveness of the evening, although I can’t really explain why.

I loved using three new songs from Paul Baloche’s The Same Love CD at this service! We’d already introduced “All Because of the Cross” in a service earlier so people sang out on that one. We used “The Same Love” as an opening special, and “Your Blood Ran Down” during Communion.

Easter Sunday – Contemporary Services

What a great time of celebrating Christ’s resurrection this morning!  The Band, Worship Team Singers, Worship Choir, Tech Crew, Pastors and everyone did such a great job in leading us in worship! We opened with Travis Cottrell’s “Alive Forever Amen”, which is such a fun song to sing! We pull it out about once a year on Easter, although it’s certainly a song you can sing any time of the year! My girls were singing the mouthful of lyrics on the bridge of this song all day long!  We ended the service a bit differently.  After the closing prayer, as people were walking out, we played “Like A Lion”. It was a new song for our church, so I didn’t want to introduce it on Easter, but I thought this would be a great way to use it. Several people stayed around and listened or sang along with the team as we did it. Eric did a super job on the solo at the start, and we were all rocking out by the end! As our sound guy said – he kind of likes the “5th Quarter worship”! Does anyone else do this type of thing?

Pastor Jamie did a great job on the Children’s Message (which is not something we typically do, but worked great!) and Pastor Tim’s message was great too! We used “A Very Special Sunday” video from Steelehouse Video Group right after the kid’s message. It was so good!

Easter Sunday – Cafe Connection Service

Marv picked some great songs out for the Cafe yesterday and the team did a great job! Patti and Cafe Crew did a super job with the food too! It was hard, though, smelling the cinnamon rolls that were baking all morning for the youth group fundraiser!

Easter Sunday – Traditional Service

  • “Alleluia! Alleluia”
  • “Christ The Lord Is Risen Today”
  • “Worship Christ The Risen King” (Lyrics by Jack Hayford)
  • “Christ Arose”
  • “Because He Lives”

This was a nice way to start the morning today, with singing these familiar Easter hymns. Rick sang “The Easter Song” as a special, and everyone did a great job!

Sunday Recap – March 11, 2012

Contemporary Services

We started our message series focusing on the cross leading up to Easter today.  It also was Worship Choir day today so we had about 16 extra singers join us today!   Things went well, and all did a great job. The last song was added Saturday night by our senior pastor, and the team did a great job adding it in the last minute. You can watch the video of this service and see the Planning Center details.

Cafe Connection Service

Marv led the team in the Cafe this week, and picked out some great songs. The Cafe service is already super early at 8:00 a.m., so with the time change this weekend, these guys are super-dedicated and did such a great job!  You can see the Planning Center details for this service.

Traditional Service

  • “God Our Father, We Adore Thee”
  • “Be Exalted, O God”
  • “Joyful, Joyful We Adore Thee”
  • “I Believe In A Hill Called Mount Calvary”
  • “Hallelujah, What A Savior”
  • “The Old Rugged Cross”

This crew had a very early morning, too, with Daylight Saving Time this weekend.  Even so, they did a great job, and everything went well.  You can watch the video of this service, and see the Planning Center details.

Sunday Recap – March 4, 2012

Contemporary Services

The message today focused on prayer, but we also celebrated communion, which is where most of the songs today pointed people.  It was great to see so much interaction on “The Stand”, with so many people standing “with arms high and hearts abandoned”!  We have been using the click regularly for a while now, and it’s great! But, on the two communion songs yesterday, I decided not to start the click at the last minute. I just felt I wanted more freedom with the tempos and flow of the songs during communion.  You can watch the video of this service and see the Planning Center details.

Cafe Connection

I always enjoy getting the privilege to lead in the Cafe service, and we had a great team today!  You can see the Planning Center details for this service.

Traditional Service

  • All Hail the Power of Jesus’ Name
  • I Will Sing of My Redeemer
  • My Savior’s Love
  • Beneath the Cross of Jesus
  • At The Cross

Randy led the team in this service, and even though the team was very small, only 3 people, they did a great job!  You can watch the video of this service and see the Planning Center details.

Sunday Recap – August 1, 2010

We had a great morning at church today! I have not led in church the past two Sundays because of the National Worship Leader Conference, so it was great to get back into leading again.  Many of the team members this week were also at the conference, so there seemed to be a renewed sense of excitement and passion in the worship today.

Here is a breakdown of our services, along with a link to iTunes for most of the songs:

Contemporary Services

Awesome Is The Lord Most High (Tomlin and others) –  A great opener!

This Is How We Know (Matt and Beth Redman) – One of my favorites off Matt Redman’s latest CD; based on John 3:16.

How He Loves (John Mark McMillan) – This is our second week doing this one. What a great song!

Lead Me To The Cross ( Brooke Fraser) – Shanna did a great job on the solo this morning! Great words for Communion.

You Gave Your Life Away (Paul Baloche and Kathryn Scott) – One of my favorite songs to use at Communion. We did the newer version of this one off of Paul Baloche’s Easter EP he released a few months ago.

You can see the Planning Center details here, if you really want to know. You also watch this service on our LiveStream site here.  If you watch the video, I have to apologize ahead of time for the mix. We weren’t able to check the mix on our Livestream until after the service today, so it’s not the best.

Cafe Connections Service (Video Cafe)

I wasn’t involved with leading this service today. Nathan, our youth pastor interim led this along with Zack on percussion and Jeanne on vocals. Zack tried percussion today for the first time and did a great job – even playing both shaker and congas at the same time! Jeanne also surprised me today when she took out her violin and played the solo part on “In Christ Alone”.   Way to go!

Meet With Me (Lamont Hiebert) – A great opener!

Indescribable (Laura Story) – We saw Laura at the National Worship Leader Conference last week.  She really is nothing like I expected her to be!

Beneath the Cross (Keith and Kristyn Getty) – Nathan picked this one out; I was not familiar with it. Great song for communion, though!

In Christ Alone (Keith Getty and Stuart Townend) – This is the song where they added the violin. Nice touch!!

You can see the Planning Center info for this service here.  I thought since I couldn’t give you a link to watch our LiveStream video of this service, I’d just give you a little taste of the service. Click here to see a video I shot during their rehearsal this morning of  “In Christ Alone”, with the violin. This is our acoustic, coffee-house style service, where the worship team team is live, but the message is live via video.

Traditional Service

All Creatures of Our God and King

I Will Sing of My Redeemer

More About Jesus

Behold the Lamb (The Communion Song) – (Keith and Kristyn Getty) – I’ve been on a Getty kick ever since the NWLC! I really was not aware of their music before then.  This was a wonderful song for communion – great words and very memorable melody!

The Blood Will Never Lose Its Power
